Stop Putting Yourself Down. Let’s Talk About What’s Really Holding You Back

Hey Reader,

It’s okay to have reasons why you’re not doing something.
We all have them.

But instead of pushing them away, what if we looked them in the eye?

Sometimes simply understanding why you’re not doing something helps you figure out how to start doing it.

This can be about fitness and nutrition or about anything.

Here's a great example, and not because I did it but because I didn't. So I've been wanting to be more social lately. I mean I'm a very social person. Well, that is when I'm around people. But making the effort to be around people is required to be social. 😂 I saw this really cool event happening for "Dry January" at this restaurant on the pier. Live DJ, delicious food and real mocktails. Not sugary juice they call an alcohol substitute. So I bought a ticket after like a week of debating. The tickets were $100 so I figured I would be more likely to follow through with something I had to pay in advance for.

This is generally true. (Hence, why I even charge my mom for personal training) Follow through when you pay for something changes the game.

But anyway. The day before the event I didn't feel like going. I knew I would have fun so I told myself no matter what I'm going. By the morning I gave myself a million reasons to not go. And sealed the deal by jumping in the shower without washing my hair so not doing my hair would be the ultimate reason why I simply can't go. But obviously that was not the reason.

So what was the reason? Why did I talk myself out of doing something I wanted to do.

My real reason was that my week had been exhausting and full of over-commitments and this event was smack in the middle. Even though this was something fun and enjoyable, because it was in the middle of everything else it just felt like something more on my todo list.

Ok... Let’s make this real.

Activity time😘

1️⃣ Write down something you’ve been wanting to do but haven’t started yet.
It could be anything—eating a healthy breakfast, going for a walk, taking an art class, joining a fitness program.

2️⃣ Now list everything that’s stopping you.
- Maybe it’s your schedule.
- Maybe you don’t know how to start.
- Maybe something always pops up right when you’re ready.

3️⃣ Every time your brain says, “I’ll start later”—that’s another reason. Write it down.

The list might be long. That’s okay.
The list might be short. That’s okay too.
When you think you’re done, sit with it for a few more minutes.
Let those “excuses” show up—and face them now, so they don’t derail you later.

Now comes the powerful part…
💡 Come up with a solution for every single thing on that list.

Some will be easy. Some might take creative thinking.
But this is what changes the game. Because the truth is—it’s not just about getting started.

Let’s say your goal is eating a healthy breakfast.
You start strong. Then one of those “reasons” comes up again. But this time, you already have a plan for it.
You keep going. And that’s how progress sticks.

For me the solution seems to be that I need to cancel on the things that are draining me so that I can make time for the things that are important to me.

💬 If this hits home, reply and tell me what came up for you. I’d love to hear.

And if one of the things holding you back is not having a plan or accountability,
you don’t have to do it alone.

Hi Reader, Have you ever heard this? “No days off, man!” (In my deepest voice… could you hear it? 😂) Yeah… sounds like something I’d hear in a bad gym meme, and yet, some part of that mindset is still hanging on in fitness culture. Let’s set the record straight: Muscle growth doesn’t happen during the workout. It happens when you rest. Recovery is where the magic happens. In fact, even something as simple as a short nap can increase growth hormone release, helping with muscle repair, energy...

Hey Reader, You’ve been showing up. You’re getting your workouts in. But… are you actually challenging your muscles enough to see real progress? So here’s the truth: If you’ve been lifting the same weights for weeks (or months!) without any changes, you might be missing out on the results you deserve. So, when should you increase weights? ✔️ If you can easily hit the max reps in your rep range without struggling ✔️ If you feel like you could do a few extra reps without losing form ✔️ If your...
