Real Talk, we’re all busy… [So let’s do this instead]

Hey Reader,

I hate the word busy, almost as much as I hate the word try.

And we're programmed to use it all the time.

Someone invites us to do something and we say we're busy instead of saying no, or I don't want to. We tell ourselves we're busy to avoid many things we need to do. Instead of giving ourselves permission to say no or to recognize what is a priority for ourselves right now and what isn't.

Busy is worn like a badge of honor.

I know this because it was one of my most used words.

There was a time I was working two full time jobs, yes two, and raising five kids on my own. So it felt very fitting to say I was always busy. But that wasn’t fair to my family or to myself and it wasn’t true. Obviously during the hours I was at work, or was doing something else I was unavailable. But not truly busy, because if there was something I needed or really wanted to do I would do it.

For example. When I first became a trainer I wanted to work after I dropped the kids off from school. Then an amazing women wanted me to train her at 7am.

How could I. With five kids I have a very “busy” morning. But I said yes.

The next thing I new I was training women from 5:30am to 7:30am, running home and getting my kids to school. And on top of that it was so important for me to get my morning flow in that I would wake up at 4am so I had time to move in the morning before getting to the gym.

I know so many of you are like, “but Nicole loves waking up at 4am” No this wasn’t always true. This is when I first started waking up early. And it started because prioritizing my morning movement and my clients was important.

How many times have you said:
“I’m just too busy to work out.”
“I don’t have time to prep meals.”
“I’ll start when life slows down.”

Here’s the truth:
We’re all so called busy.
Different schedules. Different responsibilities. Same 24 hours.

This isn’t about guilt or shame—it’s about honesty. Because being busy isn’t the problem.
It’s a question of priorities.

You prioritize what matters most to you. And if you keep putting your health last, eventually it will catch up to you—physically, mentally, emotionally. And what if recognizing that you aren't prioritizing your health gives you a chance to turn inward and think about why you are not prioritizing it, instead of telling yourself that it is because you are busy.

And you don’t need hours every day to change your life!

✨ 15 minutes of movement = progress
✨ Prepping a few go-to meals = momentum
✨ Saying yes to yourself = power

When you choose to prioritize your health, everything else gets better—your energy, your confidence, your ability to show up for everyone else.

So let’s reframe it:
Instead of “I’m too busy,” try:
✔ “It’s not my priority right now.”
✔ “I haven’t made space for it yet.”
✔ “I’m currently focusing on ___ right now.”
✔ “I need support to make it happen.”

That’s where I come in.

Hey Reader, Have you ever looked at a picture of your younger self and thought, “wow look how great I looked, why was I ever so down on myself.” Maybe you haven’t felt that way. I definitely have. I spent so much time in my life wanting to be fitter, skinnier, more muscle here, less muscle there, whatever. The funny thing is the people around me saw the beautiful girl I didn’t see, because I spent so much time looking at everyone else. I would be lying to you if I said that I don’t still do...

Hey Reader, Silly backpacks, laundry, and an early bedtime. Sounds about right. Today is the last first day of school I will every have with my kids, and I’m on vacation. So I needed to call and check that Dominic was ready. The answer…no. The seniors are all wearing a child's backpack on the first day of school. Which I thought we took care of because we talked about it like two weeks ago. But Dominic doesn't have the child's backpack yet. Then he tells me he still needed to do laundry. Our...

Hey Reader, Happy Labor Day! September is my favorite month… And not just because it ends with my birthday lol September always feels like a fresh start.Back to routine…but this year is different. Back to routine made more sense when my kids where little because it meant that I went from a summer of the kids home all the time, waking up at different times, looking for different ways to entertain them, eating differently and at more random times to a nice structure that I have always craved....
