Why I'm not waiting anymore and why you shouldn't either...

Hey Reader!

I’m going to tell you something important—not just about working out or eating healthy (though yes, it applies)—but about life.

When I finished writing this email, I realized it's long for our rushed world. So if you’re tempted to skim, I get it—but trust me, it’s worth the read.

In 2020, I was not a plant lady. But I figured if I was going to be stuck inside I needed to bring a bit of nature home. I bought a bunch of plants and did the same thing when we moved into our new apartment the next year. Some thrived, some didn’t. But over time, I created a cozy jungle in my living room. Plants now live in my kitchen, bathroom—even in my shower. I’ve even sold some succulent arrangements as a side hobby.

Still, I had zero experience growing food.

A few years ago, I tried one of those hydroponic fish tanks—herbs like basil and oregano grew on top, fish swam on the bottom. But after a while, moss took over, the herbs stopped growing, and the fish… didn’t make it. We threw in the towel. (Temporarily. I do plan to try again!)

Fast forward to now.

Our apartment has a shared “backyard”—a cement pad, some overgrown weeds, and a sloped patch of dirt with a few bushes. It’s not ideal. There’s no water source. The ground is mostly bedrock. Raccoons—and maybe the neighborhood kids—dug up everything I planted. And just recently, the landlord chopped down the only trees, leaving everything to bake in the NYC summer sun.

So I dream of when I buy a house with a yard and I can turn it into a vegetable garden.

Here's the point...and what I did about it.

Too many times in my life, I’ve waited for the right moment—the perfect situation, the motivation to magically show up. I tell you this not as your coach but as someone that has just as many human flaws as everyone else. Because of this I have missed out on so much.

This year, I finally stopped waiting.

Life generally doesn't give you the perfect situation. That's on us to make everything life gives us work FOR us, and stop waiting.

I built a pathway up the slope using heavy flat rocks I found. (yes a bonus workout). I pulled weeds by hand. I saved some intentionally (even weeds can be useful for learning about your soil). I lugged heavy soil bags up that hill—right after a rainstorm no less—and leveled an area for raised beds. I also reserached and found wildflowers I could plant in the alley way that gets no sun or partial sun.

This is me NOT WAITING for life to give me what I want but getting out there and taking it!

You want a curveball in this story?

This is a learning moment so lets keep going...

After all that effort, the landlord sent “landscapers” because they are selling the building. They weed-wacked everything except my raised beds and a few sunflowers. I was devastated.

But you know what? It’s not all gone.

I think of it like starting a fitness routine. You’ve been working out, eating better, and feeling great. Then summer fun sets in—you skip a few workouts, indulge a little more, and maybe feel like you’ve slid backward.

But you’re not starting from scratch.

You’ve already laid the foundation.

All you have to do is keep going!

Even if you hit more setbacks, you’re still ahead of where you were when you started. You’ve built something. You’ve learned.

So here I am.

I’m NOT waiting for the dream backyard anymore.

I’m growing food—even if the timing isn’t perfect, even if it’s hard, even if the results are slow. I’m learning. So next season, I’ll be ready for a bigger harvest. And if I lose this yard? I take the experience with me.

Please stop waiting for the perfect time.

I beg you to get out and and do the workout you keep putting off.

Make the healthy dinner.

Hey Reader, Happy Labor Day! September is my favorite month… And not just because it ends with my birthday lol September always feels like a fresh start.Back to routine…but this year is different. Back to routine made more sense when my kids where little because it meant that I went from a summer of the kids home all the time, waking up at different times, looking for different ways to entertain them, eating differently and at more random times to a nice structure that I have always craved....

A lion sleeps peacefully on a rock under trees.

Hey Reader, So most of you know I prioritize sleep. BUT that doesn’t mean I always sleep well. Sometimes I can do everything right and still have a crappy night sleep. Especially if my brain has so much it wants to babble about. So here’s what happened… I stayed the night at my moms and she wanted to take my daughter out for ice cream after dinner. I’ve been staying away from any sweets the last week or so. Not a full on sugar detox, or even a full no added sugars detox, which is usually what...

Hey Reader, You know what’s harder than working out? Staying consistent with it. Life gets busy. Work, family, and responsibilities pile up. And before you know it, your health goals take a backseat—again. That’s exactly why online personal training is changing the game. The fall has always been a time that I get really on track with my workouts and eating habits. I crave routine and September usually gives me that. Even so sometimes the beginning is really tough for me. I can’t always count...
