Hey Reader, Last week, I mentioned something that stuck with a lot of women: 👉 You’re not overeating… you’re undernourished. So today, I want to break down a piece of that in a way that actually makes sense, without turning this into another “don’t eat this, don’t eat that” conversation. Because the internet has made this topic way more confusing than it needs to be. Let’s talk about “fake food.” First — not all processing is bad Before we go any further, I want to be really clear about something: Processing food is not the problem. Cooking is processing. These things can actually make food: So no, this isn’t about avoiding anything that comes in a package. So what is the issue?
This classification comes from the NOVA system (used in nutrition research), where ultra-processed foods are things like:
👉 These aren’t just “processed” (like frozen veggies or canned beans). They’re formulated products—engineered for taste, shelf life, and convenience. This is food that’s been heavily modified and designed to not only taste extremely good, but it’s literally designed to be easy to overeat. And often… it’s missing what your body actually needs. Not just vitamins and minerals — but also: What that looks like in real life Ultra-processed foods are usually: So what happens? You eat… You snack… You try to “eat less”… And it feels like a willpower issue. But it’s not. 👉 It’s a nourishment issue. The goal is not restriction I’m not here to tell you to cut everything out. That’s not realistic. Instead, we focus on something much more powerful: 👉 Adding in more real, nutrient-dense foods Because when you do that: And suddenly… everything feels easier. Here’s a simple way to think about it Instead of asking: “What do I need to stop eating?” Ask: 👉 “What can I add that actually nourishes me?” That shift alone changes everything. This is exactly how I guide my clients. Not restriction. And the truth is sometimes in our busy lives we need processed foods. Yes, I make homemade beans and pasta sauce, but I also have cans and jars in my cabinet because it helps me through together a meal when I'm less prepared. [Quick example] Raos and 365 pasta sauces are processed. Prego and Ragu are ultra processed. I don't care if they say low sodium or whatever. They are ULTRA processed. And 365, I think is cheaper than Prego and Ragu so it's not always more expensive. Sometimes it is. Believe me I have seven mouths to feed in my house. I'm always looking to eat healthy on a budget. I hope this info helps. And if you want a plan that helps you feel better, not more restricted ✨Apply for Online Personal Training Feel free to reply or share with someone you know. Hey Reader! Let me guess what this week could look like: “I’ll be really good this week.”“I’m going to clean everything up.”“I need to get back on track.” Sound familiar? It sounds productive. But it’s actually the cycle that keeps you stuck. Because every time you “start over”… You reinforce the idea that something went wrong. That you messed up.That you need to fix it.That you need to be better this time. But what if nothing actually went wrong? What if you’re not off track… You just don’t...
Ahhh so human error wins again! Some of you may have seen this email after I wrote it on Thursday and hit send without scheduling it for today. I was too excited lol Anyway if you did not see it here it is. Or maybe you need to re-read it 😉 After Thursday’s email, I want to make one thing really clear: This is not about becoming “perfect” with your food. Because the second something feels overwhelming… we don’t do it. And that’s exactly why most people stay stuck. So instead of overthinking...
Hey Reader, My daughter made a comment the other day that got me thinking. She said, "Mommy you should have let us eat bad food when we were little, because it’s way worst now. Now it’s not even real." And she told me how she’s not giving her kids fake food, because by then there won’t be any food in food. Obviously her logic is silly, and I’m glad they grew up on real food, even when they show up with takis or chick fa la. You learn to be less frustrated when your kids become teenagers and...
