[Monday Motivation] Movement for Longevity

Hey Reader!

As we head into July, I’ve been thinking a lot about why I move—and why I want my clients to move too.

It’s not just about fat loss or a toned body (though yes, those are very welcome side effects 😉). It’s about longevity.

We spend so much of our lives sitting—while we drink our morning coffee, eat meals, commute, work, relax. Even ordering groceries or shopping is now done sitting on our phone.

And all that stillness adds up:

  • Your glutes weaken
  • Your hip flexors tighten
  • Circulation slows
  • Posture suffers
  • And your body starts to forget how to move well

If you’re consistent with your workouts, amazing. But even great workouts don’t cancel out 10+ hours of sitting.

Your probably thinking, dang so you want me to workout even more!!!

No no I promise that's not it.

Assuming you already workout. 😉

You don't need to workout more or even harder. —you just need to move more.

When it comes to your workouts, they should be intentional and effective which doesn't take as much as you think. I'm doing this as a two part email so on Thursday I'll go over what I mean by intentional and effective.

For now let's talk daily movement.

This summer, I challenge you to infuse your days with movement:

If you want to live longer and healthier walk more, dance more, play in the garden. Walk to the store to get groceries carry them back like a caveman the just hunted for dinner but in pretty reusable bags. Lol 😆

Seriously…Walk every chance you get, park further, take the stairs, run errands instead of ordering online. Can’t garden outside, start an indoor garden. I climb all over my house watering and maintaining plants. Sometimes I eyeball Ronald my pothos in the top corning of my living room like ughhh I know I gotta water you today. Because it's work. I have to stand with one foot on the arm of my couch, do a trust fall into the wall and then place my other foot on the windowsill and still reach to water him. 🤣😅😆

Your body was made to move—often and in many ways. Movement isn't punishment. It's a GIFT!

Do you ever think about life at 80 or 90 years old?

I want to still be moving, dancing, self sufficient…

I mean how many people lose a lot of that as early as 50s and 60s even. Do you know any 30 or 40 year olds that are skipping out on certain activities because of aches and pains or even disease? Yep me too!

My daughter recently said something about me looking younger than I am. I told her I didn’t think so. But then we realized something. Most of the women I spend the most time around really care about their health and staying active. So they all look young.

There are no guarantees in life but if we can improve our chances of a longer and healthier life why not. There are a few things we have control over and I’m all for that!

And here’s the bonus: the more you move, the better you feel… the more confident you become… and the longer, healthier, and happier you live overall.

More summer movement tips (and smarter workouts) coming Thursday!

And feel free to reply or share with someone you know. It may be just what they need to hear! 😘
